I was invited by The Karuk Tribe to film, edit, co-write, and co-direct a short film documenting the first Indigenous Women-In-Fire Prescribed Fire Training Exchange. This event gathered Indigenous women from around the world to learn how to bring healthy fire back to Karuk Ancestral lands. In collaboration with the tribe, community members, and participants, I was able to weave a 20-minute documentary that brought together this story of Indigenous women's empowerment, land sovereignty, culture lifeways, and environmental stewardship.
Hopefully those who watch the film will feel empowered by the vision of these women who are regenerating the land by upholding their traditional land practices and finding new pathways to cultural sovereignty by transforming the fire industry.
The film is currently being featured as part of the exhibit FIRE KINSHIP at the Fowler Museum at UCLA.
